I just got back from visiting the University of Southern Maine. I was asked to come to campus in conjunction with my solo exhibition at the Area Gallery in Portland. We had a number of activities planned for my visit, critiques, a relief workshop, and a few lectures. It was a great time, and a major perk to all this was getting the chance to see former students Damir Porobic and Kaitlyn Hunter. A big thank you to Carolyn Eyler Director of Exhibitions for the USM Art Galleries for organizing my trip.
Students in Damir’s advanced printmaking class running a few prints of my laser cut relief block…
On Thursday, Carolyn Eyler’s Freshman Experience class also ran relief prints…
Students made drawings inspired by animals and figures in works of art at the Portland Museum of Art…Carolyn then scanned each drawing and emailed them to me.
I was then able to cut small relief blocks with the laser cutter and bring them with me to Maine…students were then able to make prints during class…
I had some free time on Thursday morning to go into the Portland Museum of Art…
They had a great little Käthe Kollwitz exhibition of intaglio prints…
And I had some time to explore a few great little comic shops, used record stores, and used books stores downtown…
There was A LOT to explore…
And no trip would be complete without a gift from a former student…BIG thank you to Kaitlyn Hunter for giving me a few boxes of my favorite candy!
