I just got back from visiting the University of Rio Grande. Benjy Davies, Professor of Art and Chair-School of Arts and Letters, invited me to show my work at the Greer Museum and conduct a mini-comics workshop with local high school students. This was the first half of this visit, I will go back to Rio Grande to visit the same high school students and see the results of the workshop and attend the closing reception for my solo exhibition titled “Be chance.”
One of the main entry points to the campus…
As soon as I pulled up to the campus, I unloaded the work…Benjy and I immediately started laying out the show…while I am incorporating two or three of the older banner pieces, the bulk of the show is 19 new laser cut intaglio and relief prints! I am SUPER excited to start showing this series!
Bright and early on day two of my visit started at Northwest High School in McDermott, Ohio…
Always fun to unpack the ever growing collection of self published comix…for this workshop, students will be making a small (six-eight page) autobiographical comic…
I had a few hours between the two schools I was visiting, so there was time to duck into the local comic shop…
SUCCESS!
Benjy was also nice enough to pack me a lunch, and write this note…he gets me. 🙂
The afternoon was spent at Valley High School in Lucasville, Ohio…
Again, introducing the project and introducing the students to the wonderful world of COMIX!
Day two of the visit was more of the same…but instead of heading to the comic shop between schools, I was able to go to the “Antique store district” on 2nd Street in Portsmouth…snagged these vintage Star Wars glasses!
AND this Pee-Wee doll! SUCCESS!
Big thank you to Benjy, Chris Enz at Northwest High School and Kelly Montgomery at Valley High School! I will be back in a little over a week to see how the student comix came together!
