On Thursday December 7th, we hosted visiting artist Aaron Coleman. Aaron is someone who I’ve known for a few years now, and I am completely infatuated with his work. Aaron is a prolific artist. He creates that is beautiful and socially engaged; combining comic imagery with older religious references in a really smart and energetic way. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona.
Aaron was in Pittsburgh installing his solo exhibition at Artists Image Resource, and took some time to visit with my students during our finals week.
The visit began with Aaron lining our work tables with about 50-60 prints and collages!
This was so impressive! Aaron’s work looks great online, but it is so amazing in person…
Once we had a few minutes to soak it all in, Aaron gave an informal talk about the three major bodies of work he’s been making over the last few years.
One-on-one critiques came next…here seen with Olivia…
And Tyler…
Luckily, we got to hang out with Aaron more the next day in Pittsburgh, but I’ll talk about that in another post…
Thank you again Aaron for taking some time out of your incredibly busy schedule to talk to my students and share your work and ideas with us. This was a really inspiring day!
